Unlocking the Apple Iphone 3G

Unlocking the Apple Iphone 3G

The Apple iPhone 3G was announced in a blaze of glory that eclipsed most of the other smart phones on the market, but it remains to be seen whether Apple has really provided users with exactly what they wanted.

Less than a year after the original iPhone went on sale Apple has promised new users of the latest iPhone that they will be given the chance to officially download 3rd party applications through the App store.

But how quickly will an unlocked version become available... (apologies to those reading this later on down the cycle...!)

The Apple iPhone is an updated smart phone with GPS and a 16 GB memory.

The 3G iPhone gives you a lot to write home about, with added support, added GPS, third party applications, and support for a Microsoft Exchange server.

Extra 3G support is a massive plus for the iPhone.

If the trial speed of data transfer is maintained then users really will be carrying the Internet around in their pocket. At half the price and twice the speed of its forerunners the new 3G versions is sure to be popular.

The new phone is thinner at the edges than the earlier version and slightly thicker in the middle, other measurements remain the same although the 3G is 2grams lighter than its predecessor. It no longer has the recessed headphone jack, which some users found annoying, it is now flush enough for any 3.5mm headphones.

On sale since July the 11th the phone is on offer in black with 8GB of memory or in black or white with 16GB of memory.

The new iPhone is available in the UK from Apple, 02 and the Carphone Warehouse.

The 8GB model is on sale for £99 on a new £30 monthly contract or an existing £35 contract - if you choose the higher rates of £45 and £75 a month then you get the 8GB iPhone free.

Prices are quite a bit steeper for the 16GB version with the phone costing £159 on the £30 and £35 tariffs, £59 for the £45 tariff and free on the £75 tariff.

Users continue to receive unlimited data whatever their tariff although they could find that they will be liable for O2's excessive use policy. On the upside however you will be able to browse over O2's HSDPA network and unlimited access to 9,500 Wi-Fi hotspots through BT Openzone and the Cloud.

Although the addition of 3G and GPS make the iPhone 2.0 attractive it is still without some of the basic features found on much cheaper phones, including multimedia messaging and voice messaging.

The first iPhone was available unlocked soon after its launch but this time it will only be available in store rather than through iTunes. So what of the grey market for iPhones and those that are eager to buy one for the discounted contract price in the hope they can get it unlocked?

Well they might be put off even faster than before. Apple have done their best to ensure that their second generation phone is locked right down. With official applications being controlled tightly by Apple, any non-legitimate contract phone will easily be spotted - or more importantly won't benefit from the full features.

IPhone 3G GPS

One great feature of the new iPhone 3G is GPS. It didn't take me too long to figure it out. The feature is used through the Maps application. You simply identify where you are going by typing in the address, then select, "Get Directions" which it will map out the shortest distance. When you are ready to go, select "Start" and the 3G network will locate you on the map using a pulsing blue dot. As you move, so will the dot. It's definitely pretty cool.

I did notice a couple fixes that would make it better. One would be a voice command to prompt the user to turn or when a turn is coming. Another would be to have the map rotate to that you are always traveling up on the screen. Currently, you have to turn your iPhone after you make a directional change if you want to be moving in the same direction as the blue dot.

The commercial for the Instinct says that it has voice command GPS. At this point I would say that is its biggest competitive advantage over the iPhone 3G. It wouldn't take much for the Instinct's GPS to be more responsive than the iPhone's. I noticed that sometimes I would be passing streets that the iPhone GPS displayed I hadn't yet. I would say the feature is definitely useful, however, if I were planning a long road trip I definitely wouldn't trust it to get me there without a few mistakes along the way.

Iphone 3G - Things You Should Take Into Consideration

IPhone 3G

Once the 3G iPhone is on the market, iSuppli plans to open one up to figure out the make and model of each component inside, to more exactly determine the cost of the handset. The 3G iPhone is "real" now no more being rumored again. It's been officially announced for the release date. The 3G iPhone is rated at 300 hours of standby time. It will be able to allow 5-6 hours of 3G browsing, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback.

The 3G iPhone is slightly thicker in the middle (12.3mm over 11.6mm before) but thinner on the sides. Apple are hoping to launch in 70 countries this year, with the 8gb going for $199 and the 16gb for $299 both coming in black and white. The 3G iPhone is finally here. I just finished watching the Keynote address through the Apple podcasts, and have made up my opinion on the news. The 3G iPhone is probably one of Apple's most-hyped products ever, after the original iPhone. There have been so many rumors of its launch, that it wouldn't make sense for it not to exist.

IPhone Bluetooth

The iPhone bluetooth functions have careful security management. Users are protected from using bluetooth to exchange files with other users (such files are risky) or accidentally printing or communicating with your computer. The iPhone Bluetooth headset can be used in either ear due to its innovative design. It has up to 5.5 hours of talktime while also achieving up to 72 hours of standby time. The iPhone Bluetooth Headset is one iphone accessory that gives you the full ability to make and receive telephone calls without ever having to pick.

IPhone WiFi

WiFi is still just a bit quicker at 17 seconds to finish That's not to say that they haven't still left the WiFi option in for those that aren't able to get a 3G connection. WiFi and 3G is all you need after you download the app and the new iPhone has got them both. The built-in GPS in the iPhone also figure in as the AOL Radio app uses GPS to tell users the closest radio station.

Samsung F480 Tocco Vs Apple iPhone 3G

The Apple iPhone 3G and Samsung F480 Tocco are similar phones. Each of them comes with similar features and capabilities. Which one is better is a question that many people want answered. This article tries to unravel some of the mystery that might be surrounding the differences between the two phones.

The Apple iPhone 3G is a faster version of the original iPhone. The neat features of this phone are still basically the same as the original, combining Internet, phone, and music player. What makes the apple iPhone 3G different is the connection speed of the Internet. Another new feature is the addition of the apps store included in the phone. The 3G phone also includes faster and better e-mail features than the original. Still, the actual phone features of the Apple iPhone 3G are somewhat lacking. Concentration was put on the fancy design and music aspects, so the phone quality is not as good as some other phones out there. The screen is a standard iPhone size, and it comes in both black and white. Standard features include, Bluetooth, iTunes, multiple operating systems, 16GB memory, e-mail, radio, GPS, and more. It has the same multi-touch technology and rotating screen as the original. The camera in this phone is the same as the original, which is 2 megapixals. The drawbacks to this phone are no java and flash support, the battery life is fairly low and cannot be replaced, and there is no tethering.

The Samsung F480 Tocco is a similar phone to the iPhone, but focuses on different features. It looks fairly similar, and also comes in black like most other touch phones. Screen size is 2.8 inches, which is smaller than the Apple iPhone 3G, but not too much. The interface is much different, with a widgets style interface that is reminiscent of Windows Vista. The touch interface for the phone is still not up to the speed and quality of the iPhone, but it comes much closer than many other touch screens on the market today. The phone pad is like a traditional phone rather than the QWERTY like the iphone. The music player is almost as good as the iPhone. The features that come with the Samsung F480 Tocco include: FM radio, built in sound effects, Bluetooth, 5 megapixal camera, which is actually better than the iPhone, and it is equipped with anti-shake technology. The main drawback to this phone is that it is a jack of all trades, master of none. Still, it is pretty capable at everything that it does. The screen also is hard to read in direct sunlight. The Samsung F480 Tocco features on this phone are better than the iphone, as it has better sound quality and volume.

In all actuality, the Samsung F480 Tocco and the Apple iPhone 3g are different enough for each to stand alone. Each has their fan base and they are not likely to meet. However, if you want the heavy music and Internet influence on your phone, then the iphone is better. However, as a basic phone, the Tocco is all around better.

CECT P168C - This New, Upgraded Quad Band IPhone Clone Allows For Two Sim Cards Running at Once

The CECT P168+ (quad band version) has been a best seller for quite some time. This plus model took what every one loved about the original iClone and added the 850 band, commonly used in the United States for some areas of AT&T. Additionally, the manufacturer upgraded the camera and firmware and added an upgraded web cam.

For Lack Of A Better Term, The New CECT P168C Is A Customizable Quad Band (Depending Upon Your Country / Location): The new C model (also know as the P168++) is the newest, upgraded model of the previous quad band version. Technically, it supports the 850, 1800, 1900, and 900 MHZ bands, but this doesn't really tell the whole story. What will generally happen is that the seller will set the phone depending on where you live. For example, if you are in Canada or the United States, you'll be given a 850 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz phone. If you live in Asia, parts of Latin America, or other international countries, you'd generally be given a phone set to 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHZ.

The P168C mobile phone can be set to whatever band you need or the one used by your provider by using engineering mode on the phone. Most sellers will automatically take care of this for you.

Standard Features On The New C Model iClone, Plus Dual Sim Standby: Other than the quad band issue, the feature which gets the most attention on the P168++ is the fact that you can run two sim cards at one time. For example, let's say you have one sim card from T Mobile and another from AT&T. You would be able to talk on your T Mobile sim (or browse the net, email, etc.) and could then also receive a call from an AT&T caller at the same time. This really appeals to business people, students, and entrepreneurs who receive a lot of calls but want to have the ability to surf the web or complete tasks without worrying about a missed call.

Of course, the CECT P168C has all of the standard features of the original iClone plus. You can: surf the web; email and text; listen to MP3s and MP4s, use Bluetooth; and take photos and video (this phone has a 2.0 mega pixel digital camera and web cam.) Also, the C model is upgraded with voice recording, an e-book reader, and a stylus. It also has the flow touch or easy touch interface and it can also serve as a mini hard drive as it connects to your computer via USB for the easy transfer of files and information. It can support up to 2GB of memory.

It's very interesting to watch these iPhone clones evolve. The speed at which these overseas are able to roll out new models continues to amaze me, but I think the manufacturers are still (and will always be) focused on providing features that Apple and other American manufacturers currently do not.

Price wise, the CECT P168C is almost always under $150, sometimes closer to the $100 range, depending on where you look. I don't think that is bad at all considering the price of the original iClone is sometimes still similar to this.

iPhone - How To Set Up Your Voice Mail on the iPhone

Have you just bought a new iPhone and are having a hard time getting the voice mail set up? You may have spent hours on the phone with customer service and gotten nowhere. Here, you will find the help you need to get your voice mail set up easily.

The first thing is not to put the SIM card from your old phone into your iPhone. Everything else will work but you voice mail and visual mail will likely not work. If you go to an AT&T store, you can get a new SIM put in your phone and help with getting everything from your old SIM card transferred to it.

Now you are ready for the next step. Call customer service at AT&T (the exclusive iPhone service provider in the US) and tell the representative that you need to setup voice mail. Be sure to tell him or her to check to make sure the forwarding feature to forward calls to your voice mail is turned on. This is something that is often overlooked by customer service representatives. Once this is done, you are ready to actually setup voice mail.

Before you begin, it is a good idea to know what password you want to use. Might write down what you want to record as your outgoing message, too. Doing this will save time and make the process to setup voice mail go smoother.

Your password should be between 6 and 15 characters. Make sure it is something you can remember but others will find impossible to guess. Now you tap the voice mail icon on your iPhone. You will be asked to create a password at this point. Enter the password you have created and then you will be asked to record a greeting. You will have the option of using a default iPhone voice mail greeting that will include your phone number or you can record your own. You can change your greeting at any time by tapping voice mail, greeting, custom and then record. Do not forget to save your greeting once you are satisfied with it.

Students at Penn state who subscribe to Penn iPhone can log in to My iPhone and setup voice mail for their iPhones. PennKey authentication will be required. Once on the home page, look for Features and Voice Mail and go to that page. Here, you will put in the password you have created. You can change this password at any time by logging in on My iPhone or through the voice mail icon on your phone. After you have entered your password, re-enter it is the field, Confirm Password. After up press the submit button, your account will be updated to include it.

To record your greeting, press the 'messages' button, it will be to the right of the keypad. Press '0' to bring up the mailbox options. IPhone 3G Downloads 101

iPhone 3G downloads are expected to enter into its billions with millions of the new phone sold worldwide. If you are an owner of this new gadget, surely you too will be like the millions of them who are looking for places where you can feed it with songs, music and games.

Priced at half of the previous model, this new iPhone is twice as fast. With a slick and cool design, an appealing entry price and huge memory space, it is everyone's guess that global sales will hit millions soon. And users will definitely want to find cheap but quality iPhone 3G downloads.

We all know that eMusic, Yahoo, Rhapsody and Amazon are giants in the online download markets. The pricing is however not competitive enough. Music is fixed at around $0.99 while each movie can be downloaded for $9.99 onwards. With some file conversion tools, you can make the music, songs and games compatible with your iPhone 3G.

Of course, there are also sites where you need not pay anything to download the files. There are tons of amateur sites owned by individuals to offer their podcasts, songs, videos, games and software. They do so not for profits but out of fun or simply to become famous. However, be absolutely careful what you install on your iPod cum phone. If it gets corrupted, it can get really messy and your software can go haywire.

The golden rule is never to download any file from unsecured sites. If you find a site dubious, avoid it. Read the site's FAQ if there is any. Hear what other users are saying at the comments section. This can reveal a lot.

There is a third option, the paid membership sites. The sites are new and in the recent one year, there have been more that come onto the scene. Membership can be for a month, a year or two years. During this period, you may get 20 iPhone 3G downloads or unlimited numbers. It really varies from site to site.

In this category, there are dozens which offer a lifetime membership. For a one time fee of less than $49.99, you can enjoy unlimited access to their media files. Media includes songs, music, music videos, movies, TV show episodes, software and games.

Membership sites are available round the clock. This means that you can access the million-file media library anytime and anywhere. Also, they do not restrict the number of songs or movies you can transfer to your phone. Transfer speeds can reach up to 300 times the normal speed. Expect proper customer support as well as a fully-secured environment for you to get your iPhone 3G downloads.

Get your iPhone music, videos, movies and games from the cheapest and most popular iPhone download sites.

HTC Touch Diamond Vs Apple IPhone 3G

he Apple iPhone 3G has been out for a while now, and has therefore been able to dominate the market of "smart phones." Now, however, Microsoft has come out with the HTC Touch Diamond, a competitive product that boasts similar features and pricing. So which one is better? Or are they the same? This article will help you decide which phone is for you, or if either of them are worth the price at all.

The HTC Touch Diamond is, like its name implies, completely touch screen based. It runs off of the system Windows Mobile 6.1, and some have noted that that is actually not a very good operating system to use with a touch screen. The appearance of the phone is sleek and stylish, and about the same size as a person's palm. Right now the phone comes in black, but, if it is successful, it might come in more colors later on. The processor speed is slower than some users might be wanting in their phone, so if you are looking for a fast processing phone then another phone would be a better option. The HTC Touch Diamond does not use multi-touch technology, so that means as far as touch technology goes, that it is not even close to the Apple iPhone 3G. Standard features include a 2.8 inch VGA screen with built in auto rotation. It has a 3.2 mega pixel camera, and wi-fi. It comes with a GPS system and also comes with 4GB memory, Bluetooth capabilities, FM radio, 192 MB DDR Ram, and a 528 MHz Processor.

The Apple iPhone 3G is a better version of the original iPhone. It still uses the same idea of combining phone, internet, and Ipod. The main difference between the iPhone 3G and the original iPhone is the fact that the Internet speed is faster. The Apple iPhone 3G adds the additional feature of an app store right on the phone. The e-mail service is better as well. However, there are some drawbacks to this phone also. Some common features that most phones have are not existent on this iPhone. This phone is Bluetooth capable, comes with many different operating systems, iTunes, a 16GB memory, e-mail, radio, and GPS system. It also uses the multi-touch technology and has a built in automatic rotating screen. Currently the only color offered for this phone is black. The iPhone is a great phone to get if interesting in Internet browsing and music downloading. If you are not interested in these features then you should probably go with a cheaper phone.

Overall, the HTC Touch Diamond and Apple iPhone 3G cannot really be compared to each other. The iPhone offers many different features and technologies than the Touch Diamond. The HTC Touch Diamond is more like other touch phones that are out there, and the iPhone still stands alone. Still, unless Internet speed and music features are important for you to have on your phone, then you are better off getting a cheaper phone. The iPhone and Diamond are also similarly priced, so if one is too expensive for you, then the other one will be as well.
