To make custom ringtones for your iPhone the only thing you need is a song and GarageBand08. If your song was purchased from iTunes, and it's not an iTunes+ song, you will have to use iTunes and pay $.99 for your ringtone. If your song is an iTunes+ song, or was ripped from a CD, you will be able to use GarageBand to create your ringtone at no cost
